It’s been almost two months since Microsoft TechEd North America 2014 in Houston, Texas. This post has been somewhat difficult to write and I’ve had to allow myself some time to ponder and let the information and stuff really sink in. Here are some of my post-TechEd thoughts around the new “Cloud Era” we’re about to enter. If nothing else, Microsoft’s attitude and selection of content at the conference made me think and realize how serious MS really is about Azure and the future of the business.

My Notes from TechEd North America 2014
Greetings from Houston, Texas! TechEd North America 2014 is over, I’m exhausted. The things seen, lessons learnt, people met and travelling done leaves you in need for rest. Here’s my highlights, or key takeaways as some might say, of Microsoft’s premier technology conference for IT Professionals and Enterprise Developers.

Achievement Unlocked (MCSA Windows 8)
I’m pleased to share with you that I have another certification under my belt. I took a shot at MCSA: Windows 8 upgrade exam and passed with flying colors. Neat!
Hard Work Paid Off in the Form of MCSE
Yesterday, I passed the final exam 70-414 on the MSCE: Server Infrastructure certification path. On my short history of Microsoft Certification this was, by far, the most difficult exam so far.
With that said, time to take a break from the intense studying and kick back a little bit for a while.
My takeaways from TechEd North America 2013
Time to head home, TechEd North America 2013 is over and done with. Good times, long days and a flu from the North American nightmare that they call “air conditioning”. It was 35 degrees outside with humidity of 95% in the Big Easy and inside the venue the cold wind was blowing to the point that even I had to wear a sweater. And some people wonder what’s up with that so called “global warning”, hmmm… In this post I thought I’d share my 2 cents from the conference. Continue reading
Breaking Bad News from TechEd North America 2013
I went and took my chances on the 70-414 exam (Implementing an Advanced Server Infrastructure) and I failed. 🙁 I guess I should’ve trusted my insticts not to take it as I was a little bit insecure on some of the covered topics. Shame on me as they were the some might say “easier” ones (ADFS and ADCS). I mastered the HA and Hyper-V stuff though, so that’s gotta be good.
Anyways, no MCSE for me yet, gotta go learn more…
TechEd North America 2013 starts with product announcements
Hi from the Big Easy, or NOLA, or New Orleans for us visitors. I arrived on saturday, did some tourist stuff on sunday and now it’s Conference time.
TechEd North America 2013 kicked of with Brad Anderson’s Keynote. He threw a quite solid and well built show with guest speakers from different product groups. The keynote included announcements of new product versions including Windows Server 2012 R2, System Center 2012 R2, SQL Server 2014 and Visual Studio 2013. Microsoft is obviously speeding up it’s product release frequency. Maybe to compete with competitors (Apple with the new OS release every year?).
Now, it’s time to hit the sessions, hands-on labs, practice tests etc. Later!
My TechEd North America 2013 Agenda
As a first timer in a major conference (I’ve never been to one outside europe) I’m having a hard time choosing a schedule for myself. There is way too many options to choose from! Or maybe I’m just interested in too many topics.
Thank Goodness there is a great agenda builder on Channel 9. It helps to create a filtered list of the hundreds of sessions. Then you can narrow it down to a few options to choose from. I guess I’m gonna choose a couple of sessions in each slot. That way I can decide between those as I go along. The venue is so big that there might be even trouble getting from room to room in time between the sessions. Continue reading
4 down 1 to go
Just off from the local Prometric Test Center at Sovelto, Pasila. I passed the 70-413 “Designing and Implementing a Server Infrastructure” exam. Next I’ll take a small break and then on to the 70-414…
